Curated best-of lists.
Three working catalogues — Shopify apps for DTC brands, Shopify apps for subscription, Shopify themes for fashion — each scored against published criteria, sourced from real reviews, with explicit exclusion notes. Honest editorial; no affiliates; no pay-to-rank.
Curated, methodology-disclosed best-of lists.
Three working catalogues for Shopify operators — DTC apps, subscription apps, fashion themes. Each list is scored against published criteria, sourced from real merchant reviews on G2 / Clutch / Reddit, and ships with an explicit exclusion note (which apps we left out, and why). No affiliate links, no pay-to-rank deals, no "agency-sponsored partners." We're a Shopify Plus Partner and we exclude ourselves from every list to keep the verdict honest.
The catalogues.
Apps for DTC Brands
Email, reviews, subscription, conversion, analytics — by the brackets DTC brands actually use
Apps for Subscription
Recharge vs Bold vs Skio vs Loop — cost, friction, merchant override surface area
Themes for Fashion
Lookbook depth, Online Store 2.0 sections, Klaviyo + Yotpo integration, Lighthouse score
How each list is built.
Step 1 — Long-list. Pull every app or theme in the category from the Shopify App Store / Theme Store, the Shopify Plus Partner directory, and the top merchant communities (the unofficial Shopify subreddit, r/ecommerce, the eCommerceFuel forum). No exclusions yet.
Step 2 — Score against criteria. Five-criterion rubric published at the top of each list. For DTC apps: install velocity, merchant-rated functionality, support responsiveness, pricing transparency, exit-readiness (how easy is it to leave). Score each candidate 1-5 on each criterion.
Step 3 — Triangulate the scores. Each candidate's score gets sanity-checked against the merchant-review platforms (G2, Clutch, Trustpilot, Reddit threads). Where the platform reviews disagree with the score, we cite both and explain the divergence.
Step 4 — Publish the exclusion note. Every list names what we left out and why. The "what we excluded" section is sometimes longer than the picks — that's the editorial work that distinguishes a curated list from an SEO listicle. The exclusion note is the part the typical "best of" page never publishes.
Step 5 — Refresh quarterly. Each list carries a "last reviewed" date in the header. We re-run steps 1-4 every quarter; if the leaderboard moves, the list updates. If a previously-recommended app deteriorates (price hike, support collapse, feature removal), it gets demoted with a published note explaining what changed.
