§ 01 · the brand archetype

A creator-economy SaaS operating from East Austin.

The archetype represents a pattern we ship into reliably in Austin: a creator-economy SaaS (membership platform, paid-newsletter tool, course host, fan-monetization platform, paid-community engine) operating from East Austin, South Congress, or the Domain, $60K MRR with a small core of paying creators monetizing at the long tail, founder-led with one or two engineers, ambition to scale paid-creator count by 10x but blocked by payout friction. Pre-engagement state: $60K MRR, single-tenant Postgres backend, manual creator-payout process via Stripe Standard (founder ran payouts every Thursday by hand), no Stripe Connect, no Discord-anchored community, no creator-tier expansion paths.

Three structural problems compounded the revenue ceiling. One, manual Thursday payouts capped scale at maybe 200 creators before the founder ran out of hours. Two, no Discord (or equivalent) community meant creators had no peer-network to retain them after their first paying month. Three, the pricing was flat per-creator with no expansion path — successful creators had no reason to upgrade and unsuccessful creators churned without intervention.

§ 02 · the approach

22 weeks. Five workstreams. Compounding.

Workstream 1 · Stripe Connect migration. Migrated payouts from Stripe Standard (manual) to Stripe Connect Express (automated). KYC + bank-account collection inline during onboarding. Tax-form (1099) generation automated. Payout-frequency configurable per creator (weekly, biweekly, monthly).

Workstream 2 · Onboarding-to-first-payout reduction. Re-architected the creator onboarding so KYC + bank account + first-product setup happen in a single 8-minute flow. Time-to-first-payout dropped from 14 days to 4 days, removing the highest-friction step in creator activation.

Workstream 3 · Creator-tier expansion pricing. Built three creator tiers (Free / Pro $29/mo / Scale $99/mo + 2% take-rate) with feature gating that scales with creator success: Free gets basic publishing, Pro gets analytics + custom domain + email automation, Scale gets multi-product + tax + dedicated support. Successful creators upgrade naturally as their MRR grows; NRR moved to 124 percent.

Workstream 4 · Discord community + gamification. Launched a creator-only Discord with structured channels (intro, monetization tactics, audience-growth, technical support) + a tier-based perks system (Pro creators get founder office hours, Scale creators get private channel). Community DAU/MAU moved from 22 percent to 48 percent.

Workstream 5 · PLG funnel + creator-led acquisition. Built creator-referral mechanics (each creator can invite 5 creators, both get a Pro-tier month free), public creator-spotlight page with social proof, and content-marketing flywheel based on top-performing creators' results. Paid-creator pipeline 6x'd over 9 months.

§ 05 · what this means for atx creator saas

If your Austin creator SaaS looks like this archetype.

The pattern this archetype represents (Austin creator-economy SaaS in membership, newsletters, courses, fan monetization, or paid community, $40K-$150K MRR, founder-led, manual payout process capping creator scale, no Discord community, no creator-tier expansion) is one of our most-shipped engagement shapes in Austin. The 22-week timeline holds steady; the workstreams compress or expand in the same proportions; the metrics typically land within plus or minus 25 percent of the archetype numbers.

Five capabilities transfer directly: Stripe Connect Express migration with KYC + tax-form automation, onboarding-to-first-payout reduction (target: under 5 days), creator-tier expansion pricing with feature gating, Discord community with tier-perk gating, and creator-led PLG mechanics (referrals + spotlight page + content flywheel). Every Austin engagement starts with a 30-minute discovery call. Central Time, same-day response Monday to Friday 9 to 6.
